Meet the Utopia 2016 Bloggers: Ren Reidy

Hey everyone! I’m so excited for UTOPiA 2016 and I hope you are too! This month you get to learn a bit about the Official Bloggers for UTOPiA.

Just a little FYI, Ren Reidy is my writing name. I like to stay incognito

What you do for work outside of blogging?
Want the long or short list? LOL My main jobs are libraries. I work full-time at one library and part-time at another. As if two jobs wasn’t enough, I proof-read for D.T. Dyllin, basic web design(sometimes print), and occasionally I’ll sell some crochet stuff. I like to get involved in non-profits a lot too. I’m currently the liaison for The Friend of the Rahway Public Library. They raise money for the library and do some great community outreach. I always look for ways to help on my one day off LOL.

What you do besides blogging in the literary world (editing, book reviewing, etc…)?
I’m a book reviewer, proof-reader, and blog designer.

What’s the one thing you feel you’ve gained by doing the above?
I’ve gotten to know so many incredible individuals. I don’t see it as networking. I enjoy building relationships with other bloggers and authors. When you go to a convention like UTOPiA, it feels so good to connect with other book lovers on a deeper level. Tribe mentality!

How did you find Utopia?
I started reading the year before utopYA started. I remember binge reading Shelly Crane. I was literally obsessed! I read everything that she had published. I didn’t find out about the convention until authors and readers were posting about it on Facebook. I was so amazed that there was a place that we could go to see all of the authors we love. I made it my mission to attend the next one. And so I did!

What did you learn or gain at Utopia that you don’t feel you would’ve gotten anywhere else?
One thing about other conventions that I’ve been to is that they feel ::sterile:: It’s an odd feeling to explain but there’s just no life in them. UTOPiA wasn’t just a convention, it was a mindset. I would get excited to go. It feels like going home.

What’s one thing you’d like to see folks in the literary world do (together or separately)?
STOP SPAMMING! I understand that authors need to get the word out about their books, but networking does not equal spam. Get to know bloggers and readers. Build relationships with them. Blogging has changed so much in the last 4 years. I love helping readers find their next fix. I don’t like getting constant share requests! Ask first, then share the information when you receive a response. It may seem easier to just send everything at once but it doesn’t leave room for communication.

How do you feel you contribute to the writer world at large?
I like to entertain with my wicked charm…jk…I’m awkward AF. I may not always have time for the blog, but I’m always willing to help. If I can’t commit to giving a review I always help to find people that will. If I see a new release or teaser pop up in my newsfeed, you can bet your sweet tush that I’ll share it. Authors are my rockstars. Keep on rocking <3

What’s your ultimate blogging goal?

to be famous…duh. JK. I don’t have a goal, per se. I just help in any way that I can.
